20.03.2025 - NIRMALA SITARAMAN SHOULD WITHDRAW HER INSULTING STATEMENT. K.P.Rajenran, State General Secretary of AITUC has called for Nirmala Sitaraman, Union Finance Minister to retract the insulting statement made in Parliament about the hardworking port workers in Kerala and issue an apology. These workers play a crucial role in advancing the country's progress and should not be unjustly labeled as looters, as Nirmala Sitaraman has stated. Her statement reflects a dated feudalistic mindset, reducing these workers to mere looters and perpetuating the archaic “Chatur Varna” mentality, he said. The Head load Workers Federation (AITUC) would hold state wide protest against the statement of the Union Finance Minister.
04.03.2025 – CONVENE MEETING TO CONCEDE DEMANDS OF WORKING CLASS - The working committee meeting of AITUC has requested the Chief Minister to convene a meeting of the Central Trade Unions in order to address the pressing concerns raised by laborers. The meeting emphasized the urgent need for the State Government to intervene and provide immediate solutions to the crisis that facing the traditional industrial sector, the operations of welfare boards, the potential risks posed by the central government's policy on sea sand mining, the safety of workers residing near forest buffer zones, and the challenges faced by plantation workers and those employed in centrally sponsored schemes.
02.03.2025- RAJ BHAVAN DHARNA ON 10TH MARCH K.P.Rajendran, General Secretary of AITUC has stated that AITUC is set to organize a march and dharna in front of Raj Bhavan and central government offices on the 10th of March, 2025 demanding recognition of ASHA workers as 'Labourers'. One of the key demands that will be highlighted during the protest is the need to raise the minimum wages of scheme workers to Rs. 26,000 per month, he said. Additionally, AITUC will be calling for the central government to release the payment of arrears to the state government. Currently, the central government pays a very meager amount as wages to these hardworking volunteers, while the LDF government provides better benefits. He add that AITUC has been engaged in a series of agitations over the past few months in pursuit of the demand of ASHA, Anganawadi and School Mid-day Meal Workers. This was one of the key issues raised during a protest march led by AITUC on the 17th of January, 2025.
26.08.2024 - AITUC DEMANDS SAFETY OF WOMEN CINE ARTISTS. AITUC demands stringent action against the culprits in the film industry based on Justice Hema Committee Report. The film industry involves huge financial investment and employs thousands including women. The industry has great importance in influencing the social and cultural advancements of the modern society. The Malayalam film industry has already acclaimed global fame. But the revelations of Justice Hema Committe on the problems faced by women cine artists are quite serious and unfortunate. Government should take all possible steps to ensure women's safety in all workplaces, including in the film industry.
20.08.2024 - PROTECTION OF WOMEN IS IMPERATIVE. The meeting of the office bearers of AITUC observed that that the challenges faced by women in the film industry are serious. The committee emphasized the importance of implementing strong measures, as recommended in the Justice K. Hema committee report, to guarantee the safety of women, particularly within the film industry. Despite the substantial financial investments and employment opportunities provided by the film industry in Kerala, the lack of basic facilities in workplaces and safe accommodations for women is unacceptable. The committee strongly advocated for immediate action to ensure a safe working environment for women, not only within the film industry but across all workplaces. The meeting also proposed the development of necessary legislation to address these issues and protect the rights of women in the workforce. It is imperative that steps are taken to prioritize the safety and well-being of women employees in all sector
17.08. 2024 - AITUC FORMS WORKERS SQUADS - In response to the recent disaster in Wayanad, AITUC has decided to establish and mobilize Workers Squads to provide voluntary service and relief efforts in a coordinated manner. These workers squads will consist of men and women, as well as skilled workers from various fields who are capable of effectively carrying out voluntary services in disaster-stricken areas. This initiative aims to provide much-needed support and relief to those impacted by the recent disaster, showcasing the dedication and solidarity of AITUC workers in times of need. The AITUC Workers Squad will officially commence its operations on the 21st and 22nd of August in the disaster-affected regions of Wayanad.
16.08.2024. EVOLVE COMPREHENSIVE PLANS TO PROTECT LABOURERS AFFECTED BY WAYANAD DISASTER. The All India Trade Union Congress has urged both the Central and State Governments to evolve comprehensive schemes to address the issues of labourers arising from the disaster in Wayanad. It is imperative that adequate compensation is provided to all workers, who have lost their jobs as a result of the disaster. Detailed information about laborers from other states who are employed in the plantations should be gathered, and they may be are provided with necessary assistance, including ration cards. The Central government must take swift action to assess the extent of the disaster and provide urgent assistance to those affected. AITUC is calling on all workers to collaborate with the government in the relief and rehabilitation efforts. It is crucial that everyone works together to support those impacted by the Wayanad disaster.
23.07.2024 - തൊഴിലാളികളുടേയും കര്ഷകരുടേയും ആവശ്യങ്ങള് അവഗണിച്ച ബജറ്റ് - എ.ഐ.ടി.യു.സി. കേന്ദ്ര ബജറ്റ് തൊഴിലാളികളുടേയും കര്ഷകരുടേയും ആവശ്യങ്ങള് അവഗണിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണെന്ന് എ.ഐ.ടി.യു.സി. ജനറല് സെക്രട്ടറി കെ.പി.രാജേന്ദ്രന് പറഞ്ഞു. തൊഴിലില്ലായ്മ പരിഹരിക്കാന് യാതൊരു പദ്ധതിയുമില്ല. 3 ലക്ഷം കോടിയെങ്കിലും ആവശ്യമായ തൊഴിലുറപ്പ് പദ്ധതിക്ക് വിഹിതം 86000 കോടി മാത്രസേയുള്ളു. ഇത്ര കുറഞ്ഞ വിഹിതം നല്കിയത് പദ്ധതി നിര്ത്താനുള്ള നീക്കമാണ്. പഴയ പെന്ഷന് പദ്ധതി പുനസ്ഥാപിക്കണമെന്ന ആവശ്യവും അഗ്നിവീര് പദ്ധതി നിര്ത്തലക്കണമെന്നും ലേബര് കോഡുകള് തള്ളിക്കളയണമെന്ന ആവശ്യവും പരിഗണിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. താങ്ങുവിലയ്ക്ക് നിയമ പരിരക്ഷ നല്കണമെന്ന കര്ഷകരുടെ ആവശ്യം പരിഗണിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. വിദേശ കമ്പനികളുടെ കോര്പ്പറേറ്റ് ടാക്സ് 40% നിന്ന് 35 ശതമാനമായി കുറച്ചു. വിദേശ കമ്പനികള് കടലും വനവും കയ്യടക്കുകയും ആദിവാസികളേയും മല്സ്യ തൊഴിലാളികളേയും വഴിയാധാരമാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. ബജറ്റ് വിലക്കയറ്റം രൂക്ഷമാക്കുകയും പൊതുമേഖലയും പൊതുസമ്പത്തും കുത്തകള്ക്ക് അടിയറവെയ്ക്കാന് സഹായിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും
23.07.2024 - BUDGET 2024 – 25 IS A DOCUMENT OF BETRAYAL. Budget gives no hope to the labour, farmers, unemployed, and the have-nots. It deceives the students, women and elderly. It is yet another pro-rich and pro-corporate budget that is characteristic of BJP. The tax on foreign corporate reduced from 40 to 35 percent. The Corporate tax not increased. Neither wealth tax nor inheritance tax introduced. There is no commitment to control the prices. Farmers do not find any solace. There is neither a scheme to give relief from indebtedness nor the MSP. No talks of enhancement of wages. No offer to the workers in the unorganised sector. The social security to the unorganised workers promised in the interim Budget 2024 has not seen the light of the day. The special packages announced for two states of its allies is for the survival of the Modi government.
18.07.2024. The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) is calling on the Left Democratic Front Government of Kerala to prioritize its actions aimed at improving the living standards of workers and the general population. There is a growing sentiment among workers and employees that the government is neglecting their needs in favor of other sectors. This is evident in the recent submission of affidavits in the High Court claiming that pensions are not a right for workers, as well as the privatization of the drinking water distribution project in Kochi. The AITUC is concerned about the government's negative stance on issues such as minimum wage, salary revisions, and dearness allowance. They believe that improving public distribution, transportation, education, and healthcare services is crucial to protect the well-being of the people. These concerns were raised by the AITUC during the "Keraliyam" Labour Conference and in discussions with the state government.
04.07.2024 THE ISSUE OF TRAIN TRAVEL WOES IN KERALA MUST BE ADDRESSED PROMPTLY. The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has called upon the central government to take urgent measures to resolve the challenges faced by railway passengers in the state. Despite Kerala being a significant revenue generator for the railways, basic facilities for passengers are lacking. The state is experiencing unfair treatment in the allocation and approval of new train services. AITUC has demanded that the central government promptly reinstate suspended train services and enhance the availability of general compartments. It is imperative for the central government to take immediate action to address these concerns and ensure a better travel experience for railway passengers in Kerala
24.06.2024 - The Working Committee of AITUC met on 24th June has highlighted the significant crises facing the agriculture and traditional industries sectors in Kerala, such as coir, cashew, plantation, handloom, fish, and toddy tapping, as well as the modern industrial sectors. AITUC urged the government to develop special plans to address these issues and to convene an urgent meeting with labor unions. Welfare Funds for agricultural workers, construction workers, and fishermen are currently experiencing severe financial difficulties. It is imperative that prompt action is taken to collect cess immediately. Additionally, the government's assertion in the High Court that welfare pensions are not a right should be retracted. In response to these challenges, the AITUC has decided to initiate agitations. It has been decided to organize a convention on August 7, 2024 at Ernakulam to decide the course of agitations.
